Sachin Tendulkar, who’s played six World Cups, on his best moment

The year 2007 saw a paradox of  two revolutionary milestones in d journey of Indian cricket. It was a truly remarkable paradox of two entirely different, exactly opposite situations:

1. Team India was considered one of the favourites among fans, experts as well as bookies ,to lift the ODI World Cup 2007.. But was brutally defeated by Bangladesh in the First round itself.. More than a billion hearts broke, it was a national tragedy inviting people’s rage and consequently drastic changes in Indian Cricket…

2. In the same year, T20 World Cup made its debut which changed the scenario of international cricket.. India participated with an almost fresh and young team sans seniors.. The odds were totally against India owing to the ODI WC defeat and absence of “heavyweights”.. But then lo and behold India emerged as dark horses, the underdogs with heart throbbing victory…!!

What exactly happened between these anticlimaxes? The answer is captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni happened. His captaincy has worked wonders for the team, some say its luck, some call it outstanding vision.. Indian cricket achieved almost everything that all of us “fan”atics  dreamt of..                 T20 World cup victory, Numero Uno in test rankings, also in ODIs although for a short period, multiple Indian players in top 10s, record breaking winning streaks in both tests and ODIs, historical series wins outside as well as inside the subcontinent, and of course the Indian Premier League, the platform and launchpad of budding Indian players as well as showcasing worldwide talent…

And now the ultimate cricketing extravaganza, or putting it in a desi way: the Maha Kumbh Mela of cricket has arrived hosted by the Indian sub-continent itself!!

This time the Men in Blue are performing clinical as a team as well as individuals. Especially the batting department has impact players who can single-handedly win matches. The God Himself, with his n0. 10 jersey, the 10/10 batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar (ya we can say 10dulkar) with his mere presence can give any bowler night mares! Sehwag, without exaggeration, according to experts the best ODI opener at present with a mind-boggling career strike rate of 103.69 can tear the opposition to pieces. Virat Kohli, the second highest run getter in ODI’s in 2010, has a killer consistency and adapts to situation. Gambhir, Raina, Yuvi the fantastic southpaws can handle any type of pressure. Yusuf Pathan the stalwart warrior has the ability to change the extreme situations into India’s favour.

The bowling has cool contenders like Zaheer and Bhajji anchoring the attack with great experience and accuracy. Munaf has been in form recently and Ashwin has impressed with his awesome variations in every delivery and is very economical. Piyush Chawla, although a gamble by selection committee has clicked in practice matches. Sreesanth could be lethal if he gets his peak rhythm and Nehra can give quick breakthroughs and has performed well in world cup matches. Yuvraj is also a good option for breaking partnerships and quick economical overs. The fielding also has improved with a spark added by Raina, Kohli and Yuvi.

As a whole the team is quite confident and the practice match wins over Aussies and Kiwis along with the opening match victory(vengeance) against Bangladesh has made our spirits soar high.

Of course competition is going to be tough with teams like South Africa, Aus, England, Sri Lanka… But that is going to make this tournament more interesting and each victory fabulous.

The >billion fans globally are religiously carrying the hope of history repeating after Kapil Dev’s team brought the darling trophy home.. There are huge chances of the ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2011 to be painted BLUE.. so my fellow ‘fan’atics                       BLEED BLUE..!!!!!>>>>>>

My destiny is to dream
Dream of who I want to be
My destiny is to live the way I want to
Live in independent freedom..

There are many interpretations of happiness, varying from person to person. But the idea of happiness, in some way or the other leads to the idea of freedom. A child generally dreams to be an astronaut, sportsperson, musician, actor etc. But as he/she grows up, the stark reality of society. Very few are fortunate to live their childhood dreams. As we grow up, we gradually realize that what we are supposed to do or should do dominates what we want to do…

Now regarding the title, the stockholm syndrome is an extraordinary phenomenon in which a hostage begins to identify with and grow sympathetic to their captor. Named for an episode that occurred in Stockholm in August, 1973 when an armed Swedish robber took some bank workers captive, held them for six days and stole their hearts.

There was a topic in the essay writing round for admission in XLRI, Jamshedpur with the following topic:
“By the 3rd or 4th week of the term, the business school had succeeded in afflicting me with a variation of the Stockholm Syndrome.”
This indicates that initially, when this student went to the business school, he might have felt like a captive. Top business schools take a lot out of a student from the very beginning. Hundreds of case studies, numerous assignments, frequent assessments and exams have to be handled by a student and that too within short deadlines. So its natural for the student to be unhappy as his freedom is taken away.
But since we human beings were evolving from apes, we have a tendency of adaptation to the surroundings for survival. So after 3 or 4 weeks of the term, the student developed a liking for the college due to the Stockholm Syndrome.
There are several activities going on in a college and a student comes across different types of people. This creates a bonding between the student and the institute. Moreover, he knows that it is this institution that is going to give him a bright future, and college days are among the best days of a person’s life. So a student finds a way to make the most of it.
It is very important to maintain a balance of fun with academic activities and studies. All work and no play is like a laborious job without salary!!

TELE-TERROR: From Mango People To Finance Minister!!

TELE-TERROR: From Mango People To Finance Minister!!

It is said that a good salesman is him who can sell sand in a desert!

But Hello!! Aren’t those people fools who would buy it? The telemarketers should be well aware of the fact that people nowadays aren’t stupid to buy whatever they sell by repetitive promotional attacks.

The mango people (yup, aam aadmi), however, can console themselves that they are not the only ones to suffer the chaos.
One of the richest industrialists of India, builder of a residential skyscraper got an offer from telemarketers for a humble home loan!!
Even our honorary Finance Minister, when debating with opposition leaders got such unexpected call and he had to say “Not now, I am in a meeting!” And guess what, the  call was from a finance firm which asked if he needed cash to buy a house!

TRAI(Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is gearing up to shield customers’ privacy against unwanted commercial calls. It has come with an innovative idea to replace a phone users’ “Do not call” registry with a smarter “Do Call” platform. This means that any “spam” caller would need the phone user’s permission to call him/her.
Americans are also planning to develop “Do Not Track” directory to stop the online violation of privacy.Similarly, a “Do Not Knock” list would deter door-bangers like electioners, product peddlers and fund-raisers.
Consumers being the Kings(ok Queens too) of any market, they are the last ones marketers should want to irritate.

Most of the timing their timing is like terror. While taking a sweet afternoon nap, while in theatre, during exams
and worst of all when we are expecting an  ‘important’ call..!!

They just try to create demand for junk like weird jokes, alerts, lucky draws and ya.. honeymoon packages without even knowing the profile of the person whom they call!! Well its obvious that it is their business to promote their product. But this can be done in a consumer friendly way. The “Do Call” platform seems to be a good initiative to meet the situation. If a customer is interested in a product, he can himself approach the sources and give permission for that product.

In a nutshell, it should be a “We want, you give” situation and not “You keep giving and we keep sulking” scenario!!

Showlympics London 2012 vs (Un)Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010

Rolling Stones or the Beatles?? Well the topic of discussion in England just now is which of these bands would perform in the opening ceremony of London Olympics 2012, and that too when there are 2 years to kickoff!! On the contrary, when there are just a few weeks left for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, we are still plugging leaks, fixing collapses and uncertain about meeting the deadlines!!

National Tourism Agency of UK has already released guidelines for taxi-drivers, hoteliers, guides etc. and even citizens on how to treat the tourists. They are also told to take specific care like not to confuse Canadians with Americans, not to hug Indians (due to “culture”) etc. London is enjoying the fun aspects of preparations while Delhi’s situation is like preparing for an exam!

Almost everyday, fresh controversies are arising about the phantom contractors and (un)common wealth in the preparations of CWG! Would we wait till the 12th hour to get our answers?? When asked, our sports minister M.S.Gill told to fill a Right to Information application! Who would be satisfied? Every update, decisions, tenders etc. should be available online.

Well nothing is “common” when it comes to Indian administration! But there are solutions:

Deal with the corruption head on, after all its a question of national pride. Public faith should be renewed. Experts should be consulted; put the best talent and experience on wheels.

Publicity and marketing should be accelerated to full flow. We already have world champs Saina Nehwal, Vijender Singh and Abhinav Bindra as brand ambassadors of CWG 2010, so flaunt them and launch attractive campaigns. Sell merchandise, plan media management, let the theme song by A.R. Rehman be a rage everywhere like Waka Waka did! Let Shera-the mascot be people’s darling all over the world. Spread the dynamic enthusiasm everywhere!

Let’s make this Commonwealth Games uncommon, but in a truly positive way! JAI HIND!

The Bull, Dhoti, Honey Bee and Income Tax!!

The Bull, Dhoti, Honey Bee and Income Tax!!

First of all, I would like to answer the curiosity of the readers about the mind-boggling title and then about the photo of Aamir and Akshay!

As you people know(hopefully!!) that the Income Tax Department of India has completed 150 years of its “service” on 24th July,2010. So to celebrate this milestone, the IT department has launched an artistic campaign for its image make over in the minds of people!

This campaign included some symbolically loaded paintings like a bull representing growth driven by a taxman in a humble dhoti and bees collecting honey for the greater good of community!

A person who has got a hammer in his hands, looks upon everything as a nail !!”       Such is the impression of the income tax collectors among the people of our country! People consider the taxmen as the people who have got the power to burn holes in their pockets and are always on the beat for that..

The occasion of the 150th anniversary of the honorary IT department  might not be appealing to many people. But the IT people have given it a shot to justify themselves by participating in artistic campaign including art exhibitions, having drawings, sculptures, paintings etc.

The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has roped in actors Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, the highest tax payers in Bollywood, along with Priyanka Chopra for the documentary produced by the Income Tax Department. It’s purpose is to spread the message of tax compliance.

Well, a whopping Rs.3,80,000 crore was collected by the IT dept. last year. Its a major source of income for the government and people should understand that the government’s expenditure largely depends on its revenue. Often, the hype and the sulk towards IT is exaggerated and baseless..

Now along with image make over, there should also be reforms like lower, friendly taxes, simpler rules, less legal procedures etc. That would make the image make overmore obvious!

Jai Hind!
